The best DAM platform is the one that addresses all of your team’s needs. In order to pick the best DAM solution, you first need to understand your organization’s requirements. Here’s a quick list of things to take into account:

• Find out who your stakeholders are. What other teams in your organization need a DAM?
• Interview those other teams as well as your own. What problems are you hoping a DAM will solve?
• Come up with a list of workflows and functionality you need in a DAM. Document this list and have vendors walk you through how their platforms would handle your workflows.

Once you have a better understanding of your DAM needs, it will become easier to find which vendors are better suited to help you. If a lot of the vendors have similar approaches to how they would handle your workflows, ask about onboarding and how they would help you configure your DAM and get your team trained.

There are two primary models in the market - On-Premise and SaaS. For on-premise solutions, the customer is responsible for all hardware and the costs associated with maintaining the solution. Typically on-premise solutions will have a one-time fee of $10,000 on up to $500,000+, with an additional 20% to 30% of the license for annual support and maintenance. Some vendors offer a subscription-based on-premise solution. For SaaS solutions, hardware and maintenance are included and can range anywhere from $3,000 to $100,000+ annually. SaaS pricing is typically priced based on some formula of users and storage.
